The PCRC National Chairman, along with its executives and members, prominently participated in the Nigeria Police Youth Summit hosted by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM., on August 12, 2024, at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja."
This event, held in conjunction with the UN International Youth Day, underscores the IGP's commitment to involving youth in national security and development.
Themed "Enhancing The Nigerian Youth’s Value for National Security Intelligence," the summit aimed to engage young people in security efforts, acknowledge their contributions, and address challenges facing Nigeria. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represented by the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, was in attendance, along with other key figures such as the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, represented by Mr. James Sule, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Maj. Gen PP Malla, and leaders of various national youth organizations. Also present were the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), representatives of various service chiefs, and paramilitary organizations.
The event featured a keynote address by Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, who emphasized the importance of youth involvement in national security and the need for reward systems and sponsorship programs to foster youth development. A panel discussion allowed youth leaders to discuss and seek solutions to national challenges.
The summit also saw the presence of the National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, along with other executives and members of the PCRC. Their participation highlighted the collaborative efforts between the police and the community in fostering a safer and more secure nation through active youth engagement.
In the IGP speech, President Tinubu highlighted the critical role of youth in shaping Nigeria's future and committed to empowering them to become future leaders and innovators. The IGP, describing the summit as a turning point, reiterated his confidence in Nigerian youth and their essential role in national security and sustainable development, pledging ongoing support from the Federal Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and the PCRC to ensure the youth reach their full potential.
